Organizing Receipts
Organizing your receipts and statements is a boring task but you need to file these properly so that you can esily retrieve them when tax time comes. In order to achieve this job with ease, prepare brown letter size envelopes with the proper categories for your receipts/statements. If you have a business, make sure you separate your business from your personal receipts by adding the proper label - business or personal - to the file name. Daunted? Well, this is easy if you just start organizing beginning January 1st of each year. However, it is not too late yet as we are still early in the year. Ready? Here are the right steps: 1.) Label brown letter-size envelopes according to the following categories (add more if you have others): a.) restaurants b.) insurance c.) health d.) bank statements - keep separate envelopes for each bank e.) groceries f.) stocks g.) bonds h.) mortgage (keep separate envelopes for each loan) i.) credit cards (keep separate envelopes for each credit card bill) j.) dental k.) car loans (separate envelopes for each car loan l.) electric bills m.) gas bills n.) phone (separate envelopes for each phone company) o.) water bills p.) store purchases - clothes, computer, etc - you can also creagte separate envelopes for each type of purchase q.)miscellaneous - no category. 2.) Place all your receipts, statements, bills in each envelope as you receive them. 3.) Make sure you label the envelopes with the YEAR (as 2008) to distinquish from the next year's bills. 4.) Store these envelopes in a storage box file for future reference. That's it! It is easy if you just start soon! I finally did it!
